Laser

Laser energy has been used in general medicine and dentistry since 1960's. Dental lasers have only been used for soft tissue operations and teeth whitening until recently. However, with the advance in technology and scientific explorations, their use have been widened to perform a wide range of dental procedures on both soft and hard tissues more comfortably. The new generation dental lasers work based on the principle of hydrokinetic energy-the combination of atomised water sprays with the laser energy.

Heat, vibration and pressure are the main causes of most of the discomfort associated with the traditional dental drill. Since hydrokinetic cutting does not transmit heat or vibration, many dental procedures can be performed with fewer shots, less need for anesthesia and less use of the drill. Additionally using the dental laser for gum procedures reduces bleeding, postoperative pain, swelling and the need for pain medication in many cases.

The laser's pinpoint accuracy is precise enough that laser dentists can leave in place as much healthy tooth structure as possible , allowing patients to keep their own teeth longer.

High speed drills can cause hairline cracks and fractures in the teeth that eventually lead to future dental problems. The laser dentistry reduces damage to healthy portions of the tooth and mimimizes trauma.

What is CEREC 3D?

CEREC 3D is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Translated, it means that a dentist can economically restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural colour of other teeth.

How does the instrument work?

CEREC 3D uses CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and milling machine in one instrument. The dentist uses a special camera to take an accurate picture of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD technology to design the restoration. Then CAM takes over and automatically creates the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the dentist bonds the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The whole process takes about one hour.

What does this innovation mean for a patient?

A tooth-coloured restoration means no more silver fillings discolouring smiles. The filling is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque resistant. Dentists no longer need to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional second visit has been eliminated.

What Kinds of Procedures Can It Perform?

  • One visit beautiful all ceramic bonded crowns, Inlays and onlays

What Are the Advantages CEREC 3D Offers?

  • Single Appointment Dental Care. The dentist fabricates and fits the restoration in a single session, usually in less than one hour.

Most dental restoration methods require more than one visit to the dentist. This means that on the first visit, you get an injection of anaesthesia, your tooth prepared, an impression taken, and a temporary restoration put on your tooth. You make a second appointment for a couple of weeks later, get another injection, have the temporary pried off and have a permanent restoration put on. Why go to the dentist a second time when you don't have to?

  • No need for the dentist to take an impression and send it to a lab
  • No return visits for the patient
  • The restoration is natural looking, as it is made out of tooth-coloured ceramic material.

A CEREC tooth restoration isn't just convenient, it is also healthy. Many years ago, dentists had few options to repair decayed and damaged teeth other than amalgam, gold, and other metals. With CEREC, your dentist can use strong, tooth coloured ceramic materials to restore your teeth to their natural strength, beauty, and function.

These materials closely match the composition of natural tooth structure. This means when you eat hot food and then drink something cold, the restoration and tooth expand and contract at almost equal rates. So, your tooth does not crack, and you can go on enjoying your evening. Also, the materials are chemically bonded to your tooth, so your dentist can save as much healthy tooth tissue as possible while providing you with a dental restoration that strengthens your tooth.

  • Ceramic material is biocompatible, high-grade, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant
  • Metal-free -- no silver-coloured fillings
  • Allows dentist to save more of the healthy tooth
  • Extremely precise

CEREC 3D has over a decade of clinical research and documentation to support the technology. The restorations have been proven precise, safe and effective.

Intraoral Cam

Intraoral cameras are an excellent means of allowing the patient to view potential dental conditions in their own mouth. It is much easier to understand what is happening in your mouth if you can see the problem on a computer monitor. This digital image can be utilized to provide information to insurances and other doctors if necessary.

Sterilization

Instrument Sterilization: All instruments are thoroughly washed in antiseptic solutions and wiped clean. They are the packaged into sterile pouches and vacuum sealed to prevent contamination. The instruments are then placed into a digital autoclave and autoclaved at 121 degrees. At this temperature all known disease causing bacteria are known to be killed. This is the standard autoclaving procedure followed in Operation Theatres worldwide.

Disposable materials:Dentists use a fresh, new pair of gloves for every patient that is disposed off immediately after the treatment is completed. All gloves are torn as well so there is no question of whether any of them were ever used before. This is all done in front of every patient . In addition dentists use disposable masks, suction tips and plastic glasses. All local anesthetic is given from sealed syringes that are opened in front of the patients and disposed off immediately after treatment. Dentists and patients mandatorily wear "Blue Blockers" ( glasses ) during tooth whitening procedures to prevent any harm to the eyes.Bottled water is also used for rinsing mouth during procedures.

X-Rays

Dentistry today has advanced leaps and bounds over the last decade. An OPG ( Full mouth X-ray ) is considered to be a luxury to any private practice due to the high cost factor of the system. In line with our colleagues in the US and UK in which major and minor dental procedure warrant the use of a Panoramic X-ray machine, the International Dental Centre now has its own in house machine. Its an invaluable tool in proper diagnosis and treatment planning as a lot of pathology that shows on an OPG x-ray is not visible on a IOPA ( small X-ray ) and as such your case may not be treated properly. We encourage all patients going for major or minor Dental treatment to insist for an OPG X-ray with their Dentist. Ours being one of only 2 machines in North Goa we have an independent office that caters to OPG x-rays. So even if you choose to have your work done at another practice we will be happy to take an x-ray for you to help in your treatment process.

X-Rays

A panographic x-ray gives us a panoramic view of your mouth. It provides valuable information about:

  • The position of wisdom teeth, receding bone levels, which is a sign of periodontal disease For Implant surgery
  • For jaw-joint problems
  • For sinus problems , For Orthodontic Diagnosis
  • The Process of X-ray making

X Ray

The x-ray film is positioned outside your mouth, and the x-ray head rotates around you. A lead apron protects the rest of your body while our technician takes x-rays of your mouth. Dental x-rays use high-speed film, so the amount of radiation exposure is very low. Panographic x-ray only adds about as much radiation as you'd get from 10 extra days of natural background radiation. Even if you've recently had other x-rays taken, a Panographic x-ray does not add to that exposure.

Panographic x-rays are comfortable and safe. They give our dentist information that he can't get from any other source.

As well been able to take a panoromic x ray of your mouth in dental clinics dentists have the facility to take a peri-apical x ray, this enables us to focus on a spesific area showing us finer details
